Not one Hike - But two hikes the 4th of July weekend!!!

(Charles) Marshall Gulch to Marshall Saddle. This was the second of the two hikes we went on over the 4th of July weekend. What a great weekend we had!!!

Length: 1.2 miles
Highest point: 8000 feet Lowest point: 7440 feet
Trail goes uphill

This trail climbs from the end of the road in Marshall Gulch up to Marshall Saddle through dense pine/fir forest. The trail is in very good condition.

The trail starts on the west side of the parking area at the end of the road. The Marshall Gulch Trail takes off straight up the hill from the parking lot.

After the short steep stretch at the beginning, the trail contours up a valley on its right hand slope through dense pine/fir forest. The stream in the valley almost always has water in it, though in the driest months it may only be occasional pools.

The trail crosses the stream a couple of times, and then heads up and away from the stream to the left. The trail then climbs up and comes to Marshall Saddle.

That is the description that the Sierra club offers on the trail. It is a very casual hike not very steep, but very beautiful. I was still able to sprain my ankle!!! I was taking in the beautiful scenery when I stepped wrong on a root from a tree. The Dr. said no more hiking for a couple of weeks!! Drat now what am I supposed to do for fun?

Carrie was in heaven on this hike. Tall trees, a stream, big rocks and tons of shade. And not mention the huge dinner plate sized sampler cookie that we bought at the Cookie Cabin at the end of our hike. Fresh out of the oven. Yummy!!!
