Independence Day Hike

(Carrie and Charles) We got up bright and early on the 4th of July to hike to Romero Pools in Catalina State Park. When we got to the ranger station, the volunteer informed us that the CDO Wash had flooded because of heavy rains the night before. The road to get into the park was covered in mud and inaccessible. We got free parking, because you couldn't drive over the muddy wash and so the park was technically closed. This didn't deter us, so we walked 1 1/2 miles from the ranger station, over the mud, to the trail head.




We got up early (4:50 am), knowing that it would be a typical hot, humid, monsoon 4th of July. But since we had to walk the extra 1 1/2 miles, we got a bit behind schedule. The hike to Romero Pools was beautiful, hot, another 2 1/2 miles and uneventful.





Carrie got a bit overheated and used icy water bottles and Gatorade to cool off while lounging in the shade.



Charles explored the area and found that there were alot of stagnant pools of water.
Some were quite deep. We've heard that people go cliff jumping into those pools!


The area was gorgeous and we plan to go back there when it is cooler and when there is fresh water for us to play in.
