(Carrie) Charles and I had visitors over the weekend! My parents came down for a visit and had the honor of being the first guests to stay at our new home. We all had a fabulous time and can't wait to see each other again! Here are the fun adventures we had:
Day 1 (Thursday). Charles and I picked up mom and dad at the Tucson airport around 4:15 pm. We ate a fun dinner at a Mexican restaurant called Mi Nidito. Mom tried the Prickly Pear Cactus enchiladas and enjoyed them! After dinner, we drove back to our home and enjoyed two flavors of Blue Bell ice cream (Snickerdoodle and Candy Jar).
Day 2 (Friday). Charles had to work Friday morning, so I took mom and dad on a walk to Fort Lowell Park near our home. We read informational signs about the Hohokam Indians that lived in the area, then walked around the perimeter of the park looking at the ruins of Fort Lowell. This picture is of mom and dad on "Cottonwood Lane". The officer's quarters are located at the end of the Lane.
On the way home from the park, we stopped at the pet cemetary nearby. It was fun to read the inscriptions on the markers.
For lunch, the three of us ate at In-N-Out Burgers. We had hamburgers, french fries, and thick milkshakes. We got a cheeseburger for Charles and then picked him up at work at the end of his shift.
The four of us then took an interesting tour of the AMARG "Boneyard". The "Boneyard" is where the Air Force keeps planes that are out of commission for now, but can quickly be made ready-to-fly if needed.
That night we all went to Trail Dust Town for a fabulous dinner at the Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse, gun shooting, and watching the cowboy stunt show.
Day 3 (Saturday). We all woke up early and drove an hour to Kartchner Caverns for a tour of the Rotunda/Throne rooms. I think this was our favorite spot for the week! The Caverns are amazing - one of few living caves in existence.
After we drove back to Tucson, we stopped at In-N-Out for a second lunch. When we got home, we all took a much needed nap. Then, dad and Charles went to a local golf course for 9 holes of golf and practice at the driving range. Mom and I went Christmas shopping. Saturday night we played a fun board game (Imagine If) and enjoyed getting to know one another better.
Day 4 (Sunday). We spent the day at church and meetings. In the evening, Charles made us a gourmet dinner of stuffed chicken breasts (with spinach and sausage), creamy orzo, and honey ricotta cheesecake. We all loved that dinner! After dinner, we played darts. Charles took 1st on both rounds. Mom and dad also came in 2nd on one round. Way to go mom, dad and Charles! (My dart game wasn't the greatest)
Day 5 (Monday). Charles had to go back to work. I took mom and dad up Sabino Canyon on a tram ride to the top. We walked halfway back down the canyon and enjoyed taking pictures, talking and enjoying the beautiful scenery. This was the perfect way to end a great weekend.
We are so happy that mom and dad came for a visit and can't wait until they come down again! We love you!
