Blackett's Ridge Hike

We decided to go on some “training hikes” to prepare for our Mt. Timpanogos hike this summer and a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in a few months. Saturday was our first official training hike, a 4-hour hike to Blackett’s Ridge, located between Sabino Canyon and Bear Canyon. We really enjoyed the views from the top! It is another hike on our list of hikes to go on again one day.

Charles on the road to Bear Canyon.

The trail at beginning of the hike was relatively flat.

This was a great hike for a spring morning and a bit steep in quite a few places. The switchbacks reminded us of the trails in the Grand Canyon.

Taking a break from the climb. We were about 2/3 of the way to the top in this picture and had just passed the first false summit.

Tucson in the background.

I loved these cactus flowers near the top!

Has anyone seen an "end of the trail" sign before?

Officially at the end of the trail. Thimble Peak is in the background.

Our view of Sabino Canyon. If you look close, you can see a tram on the road. We could hear the tram operator's voice from our spot at the top.

Charles enjoying the views of Sabino Canyon.

Looking over Bear Canyon.

We loved the view of the top of the ridge!

Lessons learned from this hike: 1. always bring sunscreen, 2. we need more exciting snacks and 3. we both need to get some good hiking boots.
