A Hike on the Butterfly Trail

Saturday we drove up Mt. Lemmon and went on a hike on the Butterfly Trail. We're glad we made the hike when we did, because beginning this Thursday all the trails/mountains in the area will be closed indefinitely due to wildfire danger.

The hike was a bit more strenuous than we thought - and the trail on the way out is uphill. It was a very good hike and fun to be with each other in the cooler mountain air!

One of the many butterflies along the trail.

A large portion of the trail went through these tall ferns.

Novio Springs. It was nice to see a little bit of water, but definitely not the springs we thought they would be!

Resting and a little bit worn out after a steep descent into the canyon.

Our trail book said there is wreckage from an F-86 fighter jet that crashed in 1957 near Novio Springs. We found the trail that led to the wreckage, but never found the wreckage itself. This is Charles returning from a short trip to locate the wreckage.
