(Carrie) Many of you know I love to make treats. Here are some of my all-time favorite cookie recipes (and how I make them).
Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 package chocolate chips
Cream shortening and sugars together. Add eggs. Mix well until fluffy. Add vanilla. Add salt and baking soda. Add flour a bit at a time (so it doesn't get all over the kitchen). Mix well. Fold in chocolate chips. Bake 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes until lightly browned. Cool on cookie sheet.
Sour Cream Sugar Cookies
1 cup soft butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
4 cups flour
Cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg, sour cream and vanilla and mix well. Add the salt, baking soda and baking powder. Add flour a bit at a time and mix well (once all the flour is added). Roll out and cup into shapes. Bake 350 degrees for 8 - 10 minutes.
Snickerdoodles
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
Topping
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
Cream together the butter and sugars. Add the egg and vanilla. Mix well. Add the salt, soda and cream of tartar. Mix in the flour a bit at a time. Mix well. Let dough rest in the fridge for 30 - 60 minutes. Roll dough in balls and roll in cinnamon/sugar topping. Bake 300 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes. Let cool on cookie sheet.
